Overview
Wayanad is a deeply forested and pristine district perched on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau. Its wild, untamed landscapes are painted with ancient rock carvings at Edakkal Caves, sprawling spice plantations, and the vast waters of the Banasura Sagar Dam. As a vital part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Wayanad is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife including wild elephants, leopards, and countless avian species. It remains one of the few districts in Kerala retaining a largely rural, uncommercialized charm.
Best Time to Visit
October to May. Wayanad experiences heavy monsoons, so visiting post-monsoon ensures lush surroundings without the constant downpour.
